If you’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest for any amount of time, you know just how rainy it can get. Mix that in with the cold weather that blows down through the Columbia River Gorge in the Winter, along with the occasional 100-degree temperatures in the Summer, and Clark County roofs can take a beating!

As the first line of defense against Mother Nature, it’s important to make sure your roof is in good condition. It’s there to protect the biggest investment the vast majority of us will ever own. Minor issues with the roofing material – a missing shingle here, a cracked tile there – may not seem disastrous at first. But in a few months, you could be dealing with major headaches.

Is your roof leaking, did a tree or branch fall and damage your house, or has your roof just outlived its usefulness? After so many years in the business, we’ve seen it all! Call us for repair services and we’ll get to work on your roof.

After severe storms, we sometimes get backed up with repair estimates. In these cases, we’ll come by to provide temporary relief until actual repairs can be made. These small steps can keep the problem from getting any bigger than it has to.

The good news is that not every damaged or leaky roof needs to be fully replaced. We frequently suggest repairs that will extend the life of your existing roof and help you stave off a full replacement until you’re prepared to do so.

We do want you to be aware, though, that using new materials to repair an older roof tends to create a mismatched appearance. With our years of experience, we will assess the condition of your current roof and help you make an informed decision about repairs or replacements.

As with most things in life, it’s critical to take care of small problems before they become bigger ones. This is particularly true for your roof. It’s the one thing standing between the comforts in your home and the weather outside. Letting small issues persist can lead to more expensive repairs.

But more importantly, the furnishings and other personal items you hold dear can suffer irreparable damage. Problems with mold or mildew inside the walls of your home can even lead to health problems for you and your family. And you may not even notice it until it’s too late.

So if you notice any missing shingles, membrane deterioration, peeling paint or wallpaper, damp insulation, or damaged flashing, call us today for a roof inspection and to diagnose the problem. Getting these problems fixed today will help keep your home safe and secure. You’ll be glad you did when the next storm hits.

If you’re unsure about your roof’s needs, call us for an estimate and we’ll make an honest assessment of your roof condition. We’ll also inspect the roof and gutters, chimneys, and skylight or solar tubes if necessary. Wherever the roofing is interrupted, annual roof maintenance it’s important to ensure its integrity.

Although we experience four-season weather in the Pacific Northwest, it’s rare to get too much snow accumulation during the winter. When it happens, schools close, kids (and many adults) are happy, and traffic snarls. But it can also cause damage to your roofing.

Ice dams occur when the melting snow is unable to reach the gutters and refreezes while still on the roof. Even with insulation, your home will give off ambient heat that melts snow at the surface while the rest of the snow is unaffected. When that melted snow hits the eaves – where there is no ambient heat – it refreezes.

This process of thawing/freezing allows water to get under the shingles and expand. If the weather trend holds for longer than a week, shingles are slowly lifted. What you’ll see in the Spring are the edges of the lower shingles separated from the shingles below them. Although it looks pretty, if the snow is sticking around, make sure to clear it from the eaves of your home.

There are actions you can take to cut down on the amount of roof repair in Vancouver WA you need. The best thing you can do is keep your roof clean of debris, such as small limbs or branches, moss, the kid’s frisbee, or anything else that will keep water on your shingles.

Moss is the biggest culprit here, although leaves and other debris may gather around other objects and prevent rain from moving down the roof to the gutters. If water is allowed to pool, when it freezes it can actually lift areas of a shingle, which allows in more water under the shingle.

Moss itself acts like a sponge. Because it mostly grows along the seams of your roofing material, the water that’s held in place has more time to work its way underneath. If you begin to notice the green stuff growing on your roof, consider cleaning it off and taking preventive measures to keep it from growing again.

When ridding your roof of moss, don’t get too aggressive. A pressure washer may shoot the moss off your roof in no time flat, it could also remove many of the granules that help protect the shingle from damage. You may also be forcing water under the shingle or even bending/breaking the shingles themselves.

Gentle brushing with a stiff-bristle broom should do the trick if you feel comfortable enough to get on your roof. However, we don’t recommend doing this in inclement weather or if the slope of your roof is too great. There are many professional outfits locally that can help you clear your roof of moss if you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself.
