When is Roofing Season?

In the Pacific Northwest, we experience true four-season weather. We get plenty of sunshine in Summer and Fall and a lot of the wet stuff in Winter and Spring. So it stands to reason that the best time to perform roofing work would be during those dry months.

Of course, many roof repairs or replacements are needed during those less than ideal weather conditions. If a severe windstorm rips off a bunch of shingles, you can’t really wait until the first nice day of Spring to get them replaced. In many cases, a streak of rainy weather is the only reason we know we have a roof leak, to begin with.

But if you wait until a dry day to do the necessary repairs, you could be waiting weeks! Each region throughout the U.S. has its own views on “roofing season,” too. Can you imagine what it would be like roofing new Arizona homes in the extreme heat of the summer months? Or during cold weather in the upper Midwest?

We should make a note that some roofing products react differently depending on the temperature. When working with composite asphalt shingles and similar roofing material, thermal sealing activated by the sun’s heat is needed for optimal results. But we have the resources to ensure a perfect install in any weather.

Year-long roofing seasons

For many roofers, the busiest times of the year are dependent on construction in the area. And in the Portland-Vancouver area, construction always seems to be in season. New single-family homes, apartments, and planned communities seemingly start on a monthly basis.

The same can be said for those who need a roof replaced. As we said earlier, your roof takes a pounding from the sun, wind, rain, hail, ice, and more throughout the year. As the first line of defense against the elements, addressing any issues as soon as possible is of the utmost importance.

That’s why quality roofers are ready to work at any time of year. Yes, it would be great if it was 72 degrees and sunny every day. But this isn’t San Diego, it’s the Pacific Northwest. Roofers are going to deal with various weather patterns all year round: we work with what we get.
